The Aim of the Association is to create a Village Design Statement that sets out clear and simple guidance for the design of all development in the village. It is an advisory document produced by the village community, not by the planning authority and not by the Parish Council. It will not stop change from happening but it can help effect how any new building fits in to the village.VDSs are intended to influence the operation of the statutory planning system, so that development is in harmony with its setting and makes a positive contribution to the immediate environment,

Village Design Statements have significant status in the local council planning process and may even help to achieve "Quality Council" status for the Parish Council. This can lead to better access to grants for the local community.
